Mary Carlson

Director

She spent the early part of her career in management positions at the New York Philharmonic, Radio City Music Hall and New World Records. After moving to London, she was engaged as a management consultant and public relations advisor. She advised world renowned solo artists and international orchestras such as The Cleveland Orchestra, Concertgebouw Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Ulster Orchestra, Sydney Symphony, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Südwestfunk Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden, Oslo Philharmonic and the San Francisco Symphony.

In 2000, Mary Carlson founded Arts Executive Search now a global leader in the recruitment of senior executives and trustees in the music and performing arts sector. Clients include the leading international opera houses, orchestras, venues, festivals, conservatories, record labels and music foundations.

From 2010-2013 Ms. Carlson managed an Intern Abroad Programme for New York University/Steinhardt School graduate students in arts administration.

Sarah Wedl-Wilson

Senior Advisor

Sarah Wedl-Wilson joined Arts Executive Search as a Senior Advisor in November 2018 and has lived and worked as an arts manager in Austria and Germany for 25 years.

Her career started at IMG in London and continued via Salzburg, the Cologne Philharmonie and Schloss Elmau, where she was Artistic Director. She subsequently led the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music for ten years. In 2014 she was appointed Vice-Chancellor and then Interim Chancellor of the renowned Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

She has been Chairman of the Salzburg Easter Festival since 2015 and led the search committee for the recruitment of the next Managing Director, Nikolaus Bachler. In May 2019 she was appointed Rector of the Hanns Eisler Hochschule in Berlin, a post she will take up in October 2019.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Sarah Wedl-Wilson

Senior Advisor

Sarah Wedl-Wilson stieß im November 2018 als Senior Advisor zu Arts Executive Search. Sie lebt und arbeitet seit über 25 Jahren als Kulturmanagerin in Österreich und Deutschland.

Ihre Karriere startete bei IMG in London und setzte sich fort über Salzburg, die Kölner Philharmonie und Schloss Elmau, wo sie Artistic Director war. Einige Jahre leitete sie das bedeutende Festival Innsbruck für Alte Musik. 2014 wurde sie Vizerektorin und dann Interimsrektorin der renommierten Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg. Sie wurde 2015 Vorsitzende des Aufsichtsrats der Salzburger Osterfestspiele und leitete die Findungskomission für den neuen Intendanten des Festivals, Nikolaus Bachler. Im Mai 2019 wurde sie designiert als neue Rektorin der Berliner Musikhochschule “Hanns Eisler” – ein Posten, den sie im Oktober 2019 antritt.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Mary Carlson

Mary verbrachte ihre ersten Berufsjahre in verschiedenen Management-Funktionen bei den New Yorker Philharmonikern, der Radio City Music Hall in New York sowie bei New World Records. Nach ihrer Übersiedlung nach London beriet sie Solisten und so renommierte Orchester wie das Cleveland Orchestra, das Concertgebouw Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, das Ulster Orchestra, Sydney Symphony, das Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, das SWR-Symphonie-Orchester Baden-Baden, Oslo Philharmonic und San Francisco Symphony.

Im Jahr 2000 gründete Mary Carlson Arts Executive Search, inzwischen ein Marktführer in der Beratung für Senior Executives und KuratorInnen im Musiksektor und im Bereich Darstellende Künste. Zu ihren Kunden gehören die führenden internationalen Opernhäuser, Veranstaltungsorte, Festivals, Musikhochschulen, Record Label und Musik-Stiftungen.

Von 2010 bis 2013 managte Ms. Carlson das Studenten-Austausch-Programm “Intern Abroad Programme” der New Yorker Universität/Steinhardt School für Magister-Studenten im Kulturmanagement.

Ms. Carlson hat folgende akademischen Titel erworben: einen “Bachelor of Music” von Manhattanville College, den “Master of Music” von Northwestern University und den “Master of Science” von Columbia Business School.
